Digital Learning Platforms and Their Impact on Promoting Communicative Competence in Foreign Language Education
Abstract
The rapid growth of digital technologies has significantly influenced foreign language education, particularly in relation to communicative competence development. While digital learning platforms are widely used in instructional practice, their interaction data are not always systematically analyzed to evaluate communicative outcomes. This study combines pedagogical evaluation with a structured platform-based interaction analytics framework built on Google Classroom-generated data. The research was conducted over one academic semester using a mixed-methods design. Pre- and post-intervention surveys were administered to measure communicative competence development, supported by classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. In addition, interaction data were exported in CSV format and categorized into temporal (submission timing), participation (comment frequency), and completion (assignment rate) indicators. Based on these metrics, a composite Communicative Engagement Index (CEI) was calculated to provide a reproducible measure of digital interaction patterns. Statistical analysis revealed measurable improvement in communicative competence and demonstrated a positive association between engagement index scores and post-intervention results. The findings suggest that integrating applied interaction analytics into digital learning environments strengthens empirical validity and supports structured assessment of communicative development in technology-enhanced language education.
