A Digital System Architecture for Sustainability-Oriented Foreign Trade Regulation

Foreign trade regulation is increasingly influenced by environmental standards, climate commitments, and digital compliance requirements. Traditional trade governance, long centered on tariffs, customs control, and market access, is being transformed by sustainability-oriented regulation that requires transparency, traceability, and continuous environmental monitoring. This study proposes a conceptual digital system architecture for sustainability-oriented foreign trade regulation and examines its institutional and functional logic through qualitative document analysis. The analysis draws on international trade and climate policy documents, sustainability strategies, regulatory materials, and academic studies related to green economy, digital governance, and sustainable trade. The proposed architecture integrates four interoperable layers: IoT-based data acquisition, blockchain-enabled traceability, AI-driven analytics, and decision-support dashboards for regulators. To demonstrate the practical logic of the framework, the paper includes an illustrative compliance use-case showing how trade-related environmental data can be captured, verified, analytically scored, and converted into regulatory alerts. The results indicate that digital system design can operationalize sustainability principles in foreign trade governance by improving compliance verification, emissions monitoring, traceability, and institutional coordination. The study contributes an applied-IT framework that translates green trade policy into implementable digital infrastructure for intelligent and sustainability-oriented trade regulation.
