This study investigates the role of serum fibronectin as a potential biomarker in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Fibronectin, an extracellular matrix glycoprotein, is associated with endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and tissue remodeling, all of which are key features of diabetic complications. A case–control study was conducted including patients with T2DM and healthy control subjects. Serum fibronectin levels were measured using ELISA and analyzed in relation to biochemical parameters, including glucose, creatinine, blood urea, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The results demonstrated that fibronectin levels were significantly higher in T2DM patients compared to controls. In addition, fibronectin showed a strong negative correlation with GFR and positive correlations with glucose, creatinine, and blood urea levels. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis indicated that fibronectin has good diagnostic performance, with high sensitivity and specificity at the optimal cutoff value. These findings suggest that elevated fibronectin levels are associated with renal dysfunction and metabolic imbalance in T2DM.In conclusion, serum fibronectin represents a promising biomarker for early detection and monitoring of vascular and renal complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
