About the Journal

The Conference Proceedings Journal is based on the proceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovations in IT (ICAIIT) — an international forum for researchers, development engineers, academics, and practitioners working with information technologies and their applications across scientific, engineering, industrial, economic, environmental, educational, and other domains.

ICAIIT considers Information Technologies not only as an independent scientific and technological discipline, but also as a methodology and enabling technology for research and innovation in other fields. The journal therefore welcomes both research focused directly on information technologies and interdisciplinary studies in which IT-based methods, technologies, models, tools, or systems form a substantive part of the research methodology, analysis, development, or solution.

The application domain of a study does not have to be an IT discipline. Research in engineering, natural and life sciences, healthcare, education, economics, energy, environmental studies, social sciences, and other fields may be considered within the scope of ICAIIT when information technologies play a substantial methodological role. Such applications may include, for example, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analysis and processing, computational and mathematical modelling, software and digital-system development, statistical methods, simulation, optimisation, digital sensing and measurement, automation, intelligent systems, and other IT-based approaches.

The key criterion for relevance to ICAIIT is therefore the substantive role of information technologies in the research, rather than the disciplinary label of the application area. Papers limited to experimental, theoretical, clinical, chemical, biological, materials-science, or other domain-specific research without a meaningful computational, data-analytical, digital, software, or IT-based methodological component are outside the journal's scope. Editors apply this requirement at the initial compliance-check stage, before a manuscript is assigned to reviewers, and it applies uniformly across every topic, every regular issue, and every special issue published under the ICAIIT title.

Aims and Scope

The journal aims to disseminate research demonstrating the development, application, evaluation, and practical use of information technologies and IT-based methodologies. It promotes interdisciplinary research in which information technologies contribute to scientific discovery, engineering development, digital transformation, innovation, decision-making, automation, and practical problem-solving.

All submissions are assessed for originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and the substantive role of IT in the research. This scope requirement applies uniformly to regular issues, conference-related issues, and special issues published under the ICAIIT title.

Publication Schedule

The International Conference on Applied Innovations in IT (ICAIIT) is held once a year in March in Köthen, Germany. It provides an international forum for presenting and discussing recent research, innovative solutions, and practical applications of information technologies and IT-based methodologies across different scientific and applied domains.

The peer-reviewed papers accepted for presentation at the annual March conference are subsequently published in the April issue of the Proceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovations in IT. Attendance and presentation at the annual conference are required for papers published through this conference-based issue.

The journal also publishes a November issue dedicated to publication-only submissions. This issue is open to researchers from all countries whose manuscripts are aligned with the ICAIIT scope. Conference attendance or presentation is not required for publication in the November issue.

🌍 Special Issues — Contributing Conferences

In addition to these two regular issues, the journal publishes special issues throughout the year, presenting selected papers from international conferences, universities, research institutions, and other academic organisations for which a dedicated ICAIIT special issue is prepared.

Papers included in a special issue are first reviewed by the organisers of the contributing conference following the same double-blind peer review standard required by ICAIIT, and are then checked against the journal's scope requirement before selection for publication. Participation in or presentation at the annual ICAIIT conference is not required for publication in a special issue. Special issues appear 3–4 times per year and are published under the same DOI, ISBN, and ISSN identifiers as the regular issues.

Thematic diversity among contributing conferences is welcomed. A special issue may therefore include research from engineering, natural sciences, life sciences, healthcare, education, economics, energy, environmental studies, and other fields, provided that information technologies or IT-based methodologies constitute a substantive part of the research. This publication model allows ICAIIT to serve as a common platform for interdisciplinary research while maintaining a consistent methodological focus on the application and development of information technologies.

Editorial and Publication Process: The Editorial Board, in cooperation with the Publisher (Edition Hochschule Anhalt), oversees the full editorial and publication workflow, including quality assurance and the assignment of DOI and ISBN identifiers. All accepted papers are properly formatted, edited, and published on the official journal website under the imprint of Edition Hochschule Anhalt, and made available in the Digitale Hochschulbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt (Digital Library of Saxony-Anhalt Universities).
✓ Indexation and Databases

The publication is submitted for indexing in recognised international databases, including Scopus, Google Scholar, ROAD, and DOAJ. Proceedings of ICAIIT 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2021 were indexed by Clarivate Analytics (CPCI-S / Web of Science). Proceedings of ICAIIT 2018–2025 have been successfully indexed in Scopus.

Topics and Research Topics

The journal covers 9 main topics. Each topic integrates a cluster of related subjects drawn from the full scope of the conference proceedings:

The nine main topics represent the principal technological areas of ICAIIT. They do not limit the application domains in which these technologies and methodologies may be studied or applied. Research from other disciplines may be assigned to the most appropriate ICAIIT topic when information technologies or IT-based methodologies constitute a substantive part of the work — in short, a topic describes the IT technology or methodology used, while the application domain (e.g. medicine, energy, economics, agriculture) describes where it is applied. For example, machine learning for disease prediction or for crop monitoring is filed under Topic 4 (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science); a mathematical model of energy consumption or a computer simulation in chemistry is filed under Topic 6 (Statistical Modelling, Mathematical Methods and Scientific Computing); an optimisation study of power systems is filed under Topic 9 (Power and Energy Systems).

The journal also welcomes case studies, surveys, reviews, and technical notes that advance knowledge across the above topics. All submissions are assessed for originality and methodological rigor through double-blind peer review. A full description of each topic is provided further below under “Research Topics — Detailed Overview”.

Topic list history. From the journal's earlier volumes through the 2025 issues, submissions were organised under a different set of eight topics: (1) Communication Technologies and Hardware; (2) Data Analysis and Processing; (3) Data Transport Technologies; (4) Control and Automation; (5) Statistical Modelling and Analysis and Their Applications in Life Sciences; (6) Power Engineering; (7) Information Technology in Economics; (8) Information Technology in Education. Effective May 29, 2026, starting with Volume 14, Issue 5, the editorial board adopted the nine current topics shown above, consolidating and re-wording the previous topic structure primarily to reduce overlap and to state the IT-methodology requirement explicitly (see Scope requirement above).

Special Issues — Scope and Topics

Special issues published under the ICAIIT title may be dedicated to conferences with different scientific and thematic profiles. The thematic structure of each special issue is determined individually, based on the programme and research areas of the contributing conference.

The topics of a special issue do not have to reproduce the nine main topics of the regular ICAIIT issues. They may be formulated differently in order to accurately reflect the scientific profile of the contributing conference.

However, all papers published in a special issue must satisfy the general ICAIIT scope requirement. Regardless of the title of a special-issue section, information technologies or IT-based methodologies must constitute a substantive part of the research.

Accordingly, special issues may cover research in areas such as:

The application field itself does not determine eligibility for publication. The decisive criterion is whether the research develops, applies, evaluates, or substantially relies on information technologies or IT-based methodologies.

For example, research in environmental science may be considered when it uses machine learning, data analytics, computational modelling, remote sensing, or digital monitoring. Research in healthcare may be considered when it applies AI, medical image processing, decision-support systems, data analytics, or other IT-based methods. Similarly, engineering, economics, education, energy, chemistry, biology, and other fields may fall within the scope when IT constitutes a substantive methodological component.

Thus, contributing conferences may retain their own scientific identity while their selected contributions are integrated into the ICAIIT publication framework through a common methodological principle (see the About Special Issues).

Research may address different application domains, provided that information technologies, IT-based methods, digital systems, computational approaches, or data-driven techniques constitute a substantive part of the research methodology.

Research may address network architectures, communication protocols, wireless and wired technologies, optical and satellite communications, network performance, and smart connected environments, including IoT-based and digitally connected systems.

Covers the design and implementation of hardware components that support information technologies and digital systems.
